The first picture was at the medical tent. I was shivering uncontrollably and could not open my eyes from salt crust but not in pain. I remember people commenting on how pale my lips were and how the IV was bring the color back. I was described as 'babbling', 'incoherent', 'nauseus' and 'non-responsive' but those are hard to portray on film.
In the second, Mistress claims to have never seen my eyes as red which is why she took it. At this point both arms were IV'd and I was feeling better. That might be a relative term looking at this photo.

How you ever completed the entire bike leg will be a mystery to me. That truly shows your endurance ability in extreme circumstances. After seeing these photos, it's clearly evident you gave your last ounce of strength to cross that line.
By the way, did you happen to grab a picture of your IM tattoo with the hospital emergency room in the background?? ;)
I think the bottom pic will be best used in the shadow box Comm.

FUMO---DAMN YOUR LOGIC. That would have been perfect. Unfortunately I don't know how it happened but between the race course and the hospital I was stripped naked of my race clothes.
You can always go back and stage a shot of the ER entrance and your tattoo.

my biggest fear on the course was what would happen when the wheels fel off... because, i know that i would not have felt them break loose...
i watched the Julie Moss video before Florida, and was just glad that if it happened to me, i at least wouldn't know what was going down.
we are, who we are. and, i appreciate how little difference there was between what you experienced, and what i experienced... those pics are a grim reminder...

These definitely do justice to the state of affairs! But I agree with Nancy - we need a photo of the M-dot at the emergency room. That photo deserves to be in the shadowbox.

Nothing says "Stud" like two IVs AND oxygen, all from a dip in the lake and a jaunt on the bike.
That will help keep me grounded in my training.
I wonder how much closer to the truth those pics are of showing what a body goes through in the course of an IM? Glad you are recovering well-and a little seed of thought CDA '08

Hey Comm, just curious, you posted earlier that you don't remember what you were thinking on the run in Florida. But, do you remember what you were thinking on the bike here? Did you know you were in such bad shape... or were you just on autopilot? If the bike had have been another 5 miles longer, do you think you would have still made it in, or where you fell - was that it .. period?
chicks dig scars, but only if the body bearing them is still warm.
i had a similar experience in the chicago marathon...and that was 'only' a marathon. i know how the body can just rebell. take it easy for a while, and then get back out there!
