One of my team mates is looking to get into Ironman Florida this year to see if he can get a Kona slot for 2008. He has the ability to get a slot. We looked online but couldn't find the information that I looked at and understood last year.
I thought that when I looked at getting a late slot into Arizona last year, Janus allowed you to buy in for $1000 and then you raised $500 or $1000 for their charity.
Has anyone done this before and could you explain it to me (us)?

I don't know the answer to your question but did find some recent info interesting and perhaps of value.
David Warden who hosts the podcast Tri Talk has put together a list of what he calls the Tri Talk Kona Index of Qualifiers. He attempts to formulate a list which shows the difficulty for each age group of each IM in qualifying for Kona at that particular race.
He is attempting to provide insight into which IM event offers the best chance for each age grouper to qualify for Kona.
The link is http://www.tri-talk.com/konaiq.asp.
By the way, his analysis indicates that IM FL is a more difficult Kona qualifier because of the large numbers of very fast Europeans racing.
