A little Friday fun. What is your favorite running shoe of all time? Something you currently wear or a model from the past? And Why. Also how many pairs of running shoes do you have in your closet right now?
Me: All time favorite is any Asics Gel-Cumulus. Never knew a shoe could feel so good on the feet. This year I am rotating the Gel-Cumulus VIII and Nike Pegasus 2005 for training. I currently have six pairs of running shoes in my closet, two pair of Asics and four pair of Nike Pegasus.

Mizuno Wave Rider VIIIs. Great shoes and matching colors for all my tri clothes. I can't find then anywhere anymore.
How many pairs in my closet? I used to have around 4. But the fiance turned wife took care of that for me. I now only have 2.
I have only one pair of running shoes - New Balance 766. Would love to read all the comments since I am due for a new pair anytime now. Thinking of trying the Asics Kayano... Do they even still make them?
Saucony Grid Cohesions are my weapon of choice right now. I have 7 pair of running shoes in the closet right now and probably 4 or 5 retired pair out in the garage for yardwork...

I am going to have to say my new Asics GT2110's. i have never had a proper running shoe fitting before, and I went to Fleet Feet sports last weekend (I posted something on it the other day) and got those new shoes. I have purchased New Balance Shoes for the past 6 years, and I have nothing against them, it is just that Asics was the best shoe for me this time. My second choice, however, was the New Balance 1060. I have run the gambit from New Balance 400 series to 800 series, and have been pretty satisified. Now I just need to break these new shoes in a bit more and they will be my new favorites.
Asics Gel 1100..i will wear it until i see Jesus (or I can't find them no more..they already stop making those already :( ).
When I first started running in 1977 I ran in an Adidas SL72 shoe.
At that time none of the great runners wore socks so neither did I. I was living in the high desert of Southern CA and had to tape my toes before each run to prevent blisters.
I would run almost every day in the hottest part of the day, and my shoes stunk so bad, that my wife made me leave them out on the back porch.
Since then I have discoved socks and the wisdom of rotating shoes.
Spokane Al- thanks for your historical perspective. I appreciate where technology has taken us in our footwear but even more so appreciate how it used to be.
To everyone- its seems Asics and New Balance are the fav's so far. Interesting, I would have thought a Nike would be in there somewhere?
Any thoughts on that?
Never wore New Balance why are they so popular?
Asics Kayanos. I have at least 8 pairs lying around the house in various states of disrepair. I used 3 pairs of the most recent version (Kayano XI's) and just ordered a pair of the new Kayano XII's.
Tired Nikes and New Balances, neither brand provided me the same level of comfort and support as my Kayanos.

I'm an Asics fan as well. Before I found them, I had all sorts of knee pain and was starting to have foot problems. I pronate.. and the asics help with that. Funny... in college, coach put us all in the same running and basketball shoe, and couldn't figure out why I always had to get cortisone injections in my toes... and why my feet and knees hurt so bad all the time. Since I found Asics, it's almost like I don't have the arthritis in the knees.
I swear by New Balance (currently sporting 1060s), but I'm a little biased because they're the only brand to carry a decent selection of wide sizes.
I got suckered into trying a pair of Nike Bowermans (a men's line, the only wide sizes Nike offers) by a local running store after my last pair of New Balances died, and it was literally from the first run I started having a zillion little aches and pains I never had before. (My trainer told me she hears that all the time from people who try Nikes; she recommends against them.) Those shoes didn't last a month before I relegated them to 'cute outfits only' status and made the treck to Fleet Feet for a real fitting.
I kind of feel like the New Balances are too puffy - I envy runners with sleek-looking shoes - but so far there's nothing else on the market that I can even wear.

I started running in men's Saucony Freedom Trainers. Hardly anyone will remember these. Wore a small size in men's as they weren't making good running shoes for women "back in the day"- late 70s-early 80s. Thank god times have changed, hmmm?
Well since you asked...When I was in college I would by children's sizes of whatever was comfortable at the time. HUGE mistake. I then tried new balance which gave me horrible blisters. I went to a running shoe store and got fitted into Brookes (Looks like I am the only one here on this brand)and have had no blisters, but as of late ITB issues that I am not sure are associated with the shoes. When I get new ones this month, we will see. Since we have downsized our life and belongings, I only have the one pair.
I have a deep fondness for the Saucony's I ran in as a child. It was always a pride filled moment when Dad determined you had run enough to merit new shoes. They were SO comfy.
Saucony Shadow 6000. You usually can't find them in stores anymore. They're basic, no-frills, no-new-inventions running shoes. Totally comfortable for me. No gel, air, trampolines, grids, they don't play a musical tune. They cost $62.99 from Road Runner Sports. Occasionally I try some new gimmick, think I like it, but then order my Shadows next time because they're half the price, and each time I put on my new pair I realize how much I like these shoes. I don't know why I fall for the new gizmos when I know I love my Shadows.
